Serious As Of Late

I am a blogger who chronicles the things going on in my own life and in the world around me. These are serious days and this blog reflects that. There is time for levity but this seems to not be one of them. Of course I will sprinkle in some comic relief but my heart is in a place of commenting on what is happening in current events. Thank you for tagging along at all times here.

To Kill A Mockingbird, A Reflection Of America

Watching “To Kill A Mockingbird” and its sinful how African Americans have been treated throughout the history of America. Fast forward to today and there is still a struggle. How long will it take for racism to die? It mirrors another issue we face today too with equality. If America is to be great then those two things will determine our moral fate.

One Year Ago, A Change Was Made

One year ago we worshipped at White Oak UMC for the last time. After 10 years at the church we were ready for a change. Last summer we did a search for a new church and ended up at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church where we have been warmly received and we have been presented with opportunities to grow our faith and serve the Lord at the same time. God gave us 10 years at White Oak and we are grateful for the people we met there and the experiences we had. Thanks to Steve, Amy and Lyle for being our pastors and shepherds. Now we are in a place and new global faith community that is helping us grow and to continue our faith journey. Thanks be to God. Blessed be.

Tunes Tuesday – U2 – Pride (In The Name Of Love)

Our nation is still reeling over the events in Orlando and those wounds will take a long time to heal. This song from long ago seems so fitting today. These lads from Ireland know how to share the consciousness of what people are thinking and feeling. What are you doing in the name of love?

Lyrics

One man come in the name of love
One man come and go
One man come he to justify
One man to overthrow

In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
What more in the name of love

One man caught on a barbed wire fence
One man he resist
One man washed up on an empty beach
One man betrayed with a kiss

In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
What more in the name of love

Early morning, April four
Shot rings out in the Memphis sky
Free at last, they took your life
They could not take your pride

In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
What more in the name of love

In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
What more in the name of love

June 14 is World Blood Donor Day. It’s a great opportunity to celebrate those who give the gift of life and spread the word about the value of donation.

What we see every day around the world is situations where blood is needed for those in need whether it be for surgery or because they have been in a serious accident and require an emergency transfusion or as we have seen in Orlando the need because of a mass shooting. You never know when you will need blood to save your life or even saving the lives of someone you love. Being a blood donor means saving 3 lives with every donation. If you can donate please consider donating today.
