Deferred For The First Time Ever

For the first time ever I was deferred when trying to donate blood at work (I work for a regional blood bank in Tennessee). It means my iron level was a bit too low. This is strange because it’s always up where it needs to be. Maybe I’m giving too often? Disappointing for sure. Let’s try tomorrow and see what happens.

  1. Hope it works out! I haven’t been able to give for about 30 years due to low iron. I have been a transfusion recipient, and more recently, my dad was a recipient. We THANK YOU!

  2. Please take care of yourself. Even if you’re better tomorrow, maybe take this as a little sign that maybe you need more of a break in-between sessions? Don’t dismiss this… take it in and adjust. Take care of you. Remember, you can not help others unless your cup is full.

  3. I hate being deferred! I was diagnosed with anemia in college, so I’ve struggled with low iron for several years. However, I’ve been able to donate more consistently by taking iron supplements and adjusting my diet.
