Change At The Walmart

On Mother’s Day, I took my mother to Walmart to get groceries and a few other things. While there I noticed there were some big changes. The biggest change was they have made the store entirely self check out. Gone are the cashiers that checked out customers for years.

Please know I am not a snob but I am not inclined to go there very often if I have to do the work of checking out a ton of groceries. Also, the fact they eliminated some employment opportunities is concerning for those looking for cashier positions. I feel that as a customer I should expect some level of service considering how much I am spending.

Come on Walmart, you can do better.

  1. Cutting jobs is low. I always purposely sought out a register with a live cashier. I am slow and get very scattered and panicky with self checkout and more than 5 items. This is ensuring my trips to this store will be on a ‘only if I have no choice’ basis.
I was informed that our local Aldi has now started charging $3.50 to process debit card payments. Sorry, Aldi, but you have alienated a customer. I am not spending $3.50 so I can buy a few bags. For a year, we were told to use debit over bacteria ridden cash, not we have to pay you to use debit?
I just do not know what to think anymore,it is all such a mess.

  2. Ohhhhhhhh, we’ve got them here! I would be willing to bet that at some point, they’ll bring back a couple of cashiers. Not everyone can use those well. I only use them when I need to get like one thing, but sometimes I still have issues, lol … I never use them apart from that.

  3. My mother loves the self-checkout. I noticed that too at one walmart I went to a few weeks ago. But I wasn’t feeling good yesterday to really notice if another walmart around here had changed.
