May I See Your ID Please

The Mrs. and I went to dinner at a local pizza joint tonight and I ordered a beer with my slice and the server did not ask for my ID. I am 51 and my salt and pepper temples might give away that I would have liked to have been asked to prove that by being “carded”. Sometimes it’s a matter of self esteem I suppose.

  1. A lot of men get pissy when they’re carded, so the server was also probably trying to weigh the best move for getting a tip. Also, you want to look like you’re at least 21, right? What’s worse is when they don’t card you when using an AARP card!

  2. Many years ago when I was in college, we could drink 3.2% beer from age 18-21 and after 21, any alcohol. From the time I was 17-24, the main variable was whether I had shaved. If I had recently shaved, I was always carded. If I didn’t shave, they assumed I was 21 or more.
