Seven percent of voters have lost or ended a friendship as a result of this year’s presidential race, according to a new Monmouth University survey…via How many people have ended friendships over the election? – CBS News
Personally I can say I have had some strained friendships and perhaps some relationships that will never be the same because of this presidential election here in the USA. Politics is personal. There are two things you don’t talk about, religion and politics (and sports in some places) in polite company anyway. After November the nation will take time to heal after this brutal cycle. Let’s hope we can all have a cold one after all this is said and done. Reconciliation will be hard but it’s worth doing.
During the extremely divisive Scottish Independence Referendum in 2014 feelings ran high on both sides, with families and communities becoming in some cases irreparably divided – two years on, feelings still run high and the healing is still ongoing… and now in the UK we have the ongoing BREXIT negotiations where we’ve see those damaging polarised divisions happening all over again over the question of the UK exiting the European Union… hopefully America will find a more unified way through this year’s particularly contraversial presidential election, one way or another 🙂

The UK has had to decide a lot of stuff in a short time. I feel your pain there.

I’ve seen quite a few friendships that have ended over this election.

It makes a lot of sense. Supporting a candidate implies you also believe in him/her declarations

I usually try to keep my mouth shut when it comes to discussing politics with friends who don’t feel the same, but I’m finding it particularly difficult this year. Thankfully most of my friends feel the same way as I do.

I’ve parted ways with a few long-time email buddies over this, and am trying not to touch the subject with the friends in real life. I saw someone posted on Quora anonymously, with the excuse that they have to make a living… how about it?
I blogged about this another day: https://comeinsitdown.wordpress.com/2016/09/28/agree-to-disagree-is-a-rare-occurrence-in-this-pre-election-season/
Hope this phenomenon goes down in history once this election season is over with
