Phone answering has changed with the advent of cell phones. On our land line we always say the same sorts of things, ‘Good evening (or afternoon or whatever) this is the xxxxx residence, how may I help you? It was polite and deterred many a telemarketer. Now, you MUST say hello if someone is calling from an office to remind you of an appointment or to pick up meds. And on modern lines or a cell phone, you almost always know who it is and just answer. Sad.
