“Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers – The Waiting” #RIPTom

Tom Petty, one of the great musical talents in America passed away at age 66 today. I grew up listening to him on the radio and his videos on MTV were terrific. Rest In Harmony Tom.

(It was officially announced late on Monday evening in California that Tom had passed away. Earlier reports had indicated he did but had not after some incorrect reporting.)

Everyone Gets It Wrong Sometimes

One part of this blog is its dedication to current events. That is because I am big on posting about things that are happening now. However there comes a time when I get stuff wrong. I rely upon sources from the media that have a long history of journalism and getting things right. Today I posted about the death of rock star Tom Petty. It was later that his death was not verified so as of this post he is still alive.

Everyone gets things wrong sometimes but you want to be as right as you can. Keeping on top of things means verifying your sources multiple times. The web does have some great websites to verify reality from urban legend to misinformation. When I get something wrong I will own up to it and say I am sorry. Ones reputation online means being accurate as much as you can.

Retraction: Tom Petty

It appears Tom Petty’s death was mis-reported. I suspect his condition is very serious at this time. The initial report was retracted earlier.

Giving Blood In Times Like This

In a mass shooting like we have seen in Las Vegas this is a reminder of how community must come together to overcome an evil act. Like we have seen time and again the need for blood is important. Likely in Vegas they will use hundreds of units to keep people alive. Wherever you are at donate so that locally there is a safe and adequate supply on hand in situations like we have seen overnight. My friends call your local blood bank to set up an appointment to donate today and in the coming days. In Chattanooga you can donate at Blood Assurance. Please give.
