Advertising Family and What Does It Mean

I saw this commercial this morning and was struck by how bold it is. The commercial shows traditional family arrangements then it shows the changing face of what family is about today. Family is so important to the fabric of America and some folks have to fight to have their own definition of family recognized. Tylenol is a product that takes the pain away and family can do the same. I am a supporter of family in however it presents itself. No one group should define what family is. When it comes down to it this is about love and it should always win.

Weekend Frittata

This is the frittata we had this morning for breakfast. It’s very good stuff!

Laura B's avatarThe Soup Diva

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cups potatoes, sliced
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms (can also use diced ham or other cooked meat)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese of your choice
  • 1 cup baby spinach leaves (or other greens)
  • 6 eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste

Preheat oven to 400. Coat covered oven-safe skillet with oil. Lay potato slices in even layer, sprinkle with salt, and heat skillet to medium (listen for the oil sizzling, this means your potatoes are getting a nice crust). Top with mushrooms (or meat) and cheese, then spread greens over top. Beat eggs, milk, and seasonings together, then pour evenly over fillings once spinach has begun to wilt. Heat until eggs have just started to set, then place in oven. Bake for about 15 minutes (check after 10). Frittata is done when eggs are completely set. Allow to cool 5 minutes before serving.

Conveniences

The definition of convenience is

state of being able to proceed with something with little effort or difficulty.

People like convenience. We like things delivered to us like pizza and stuff from Amazon. Getting out to do something can be a hassle and in our modern lives we want things brought to us. It used to be people would get out and do things in community. The grocery store is one place that everyone has to go to because we gotta eat. We have seen a shift how we are being catered to for maximum convenience. One question can be asked has convenience led to laziness? I can say I like the conveniences brought to us by technology. I don’t have to use actual handwriting much because of the keyboard and for me that is a convenience because I hate hand writing anything.

People are likely to give if it means their donation can be picked up close to home. Companies spend billions on figuring out how to bringing goods and services to individuals but that has cost some folks their jobs because their brick and mortar store has been closed due to competition and changes in the marketplace. So has our desire for convenience been good for us or is it just making us more isolated and dependent on the labor of others? These are some questions we need to answer, just when its convenient for us. Excuse me, I am going to go order something online.
