Whenever there is sudden change on the job it can be unsettling. It happened to me this week when my team experienced a shakeup in leadership (not me because I am team leader). Decisions are made outside ones sphere of influence and there is nothing you can do about it. You get through it by breathing, doing your best and most importantly being a team player.
There is also the fact that you will have to play by someone else’s rules and having a good attitude can help you navigate the seas of changes that will most likely happen. Staff turnover can be a challenge to deal with but it can be a great opportunity to show what you can do and to impress some people up the food chain. In many cases thee was nothing you could do to change the situation. You have to be tough and calm too because the road ahead can get bumpy.
Best of luck to all who are experiencing this too. Hang in there. Rock on!
Being a team leader in any line of work is a big responsibility. You are placed in trust of the lives and livelihoods of everyone you are placed in charge of. Management is not easy because you have to coach, correct and discipline when necessary. It is also a fun job because you get to do different things and to impart your vision to your team. I hope to grow and develop as a person as I do this job.
Of course you have production goals to achieve which requires a lot of work and being sure that work is done by every team member. You as a middle manager which I am means you get pressure from the top to perform and you get it from below from your team when they have problems, and you hope that you can manage them as they happen.
In my line of work there statistics, metrics, data and spreadsheets that one can use to measure performance and productivity. However a co-worker said that stats don’t make the person, the worker is more valuable than that. Now that I am headed into my second week in management I see things coming together and things smoothing themselves as I go along. Indeed I am grateful for this opportunity.
