Get ready to rock. Ordered a fancy new record player today. Looking forward to some musical fun. I even ordered a record to go with it.
Oh I ordered some practical stuff too.

I wear the black for the poor and the beaten down Living in the hopeless, hungry side of town I wear it for the prisoner who has long paid for his crime But is there because he’s a victim of the times
Johnny Cash – The Man In Black
An appropriate song for the times we live in. This song is a protest song of sorts I think. He in his own way is aware of the plight of others and I so appreciate that.
This 40 year old song has some very timely relevance to what we are going through in the world right now. Sometimes music speaks volumes and expresses the angst that people are feeling right now. There is a glimmer of hope though.
This is a strong protest song that brings up the issue of racism in America. In “This Land” it talks about a black man who is American and fights those who think otherwise. Gary Clark, Jr. tells a strong story here.
In all we are experiencing these days this song sounds fitting as an expression of grief. In this video the late Tom Petty is doing vocals in this all-star band. Then the late Prince comes on and just rocks one of the best guitar riffs ever.
So many people are weeping and its only appropriate that guitars do the same. People need to be loved even in sad times. It’s important we do love because its needed so much now.
For today’s Sonic Saturday I am serving up some 1990’s groove. Passion by Dionne Farris is one of those songs that has some killer vocals with some great guitar rifts with tight bass lines. Her voice is pure soul and power.
