Early this morning water service was restored after our day-long water outage in most of Chattanooga. Water is a necessity and without it life can be very challenging if not impossible. It’s good that basic things like cooking, laundry, brushing teeth and other things are possible again. Thanks to Tennessee American Water our water service utility for their hard work in getting things flowing again.

Water is something that cleanses and renews. From water life begins anew. Baptism in water can bring people to a relationship with God. I find peace in water in a place like my parish. Water is holy.

Today is World Water Day. Your body is 55-60% water so you need it daily to keep it going. We need clean water from it’s various sources to maintain life. Water is important and it always wins.
Water is patient, Adelaide. Water just waits. Wears down the cliff tops, the mountains. The whole of the world. Water always wins. (The 10th Doctor as played by David Tennant from Doctor Who).
I did a little DIY tonight replacing some key components in one of our bathroom toilets. Trust me I am not a professional so don’t ask me to come to your house to do the same thing. Part of home ownership is doing all the things or having all the things done to your dwelling that your apartment superintendent used to do.
The thing on the left is a flapper that stops the water from going into your toilet bowl. On the right is the fill valve that brings water into your toilet and stops at a certain level. Both are necessary for your toilet to flush and function properly.
If either unit doesn’t work right it could cause a spike in your water/hydro bills. They are fairly easy to replace under the right conditions. If I can do it some people can but of course a professional plumber will do a better job than I would but I like saving money where I can.
Just a reminder that water always wins, at least that is what I hear on “Doctor Who”.
