Something About Being Woke

The word “Woke” in my mind is one of a call to action. Merriam-Webster defines it this way, “Aware of and actively attentive to important societal facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice).” To me as a believer, it’s a call to action.

It’s a word with history for the African-American community to be vigilant against those who would do harm to their community. Unfortunately, the word has a negative connotation for some. For so many they have to be woke because it keeps them alive.

We all need to be woke these days. Lots of bad things are happening, and many people are experiencing pain for many reasons. In as much as I can be, I am woke, awake, and compassionate. I think good people should aspire to be what woke is in the best spirit of it all.

Quote Of The Day II

Make no mistake, empathy is not weak or ‘woke.’ And by the way, woke just means you give a damn about other people.

Six Word Story

I’m Woke. I’m proud to be.

I Am Woke

Woke means a lot of things to a lot of people and I choose to reclaim the meaning of it. It’s about being sensitive to the needs of others. Being a good person. Giving your friends and neighbors the best shot at a better life. I also think it means being informed and educated about how others have experienced their lives. Being woke is important and needed in the days we live in.

I won’t argue about this and if you disagree that is your problem.

There’s No Shame In Being Woke

This describes me. Like it or not. I am not ashamed of being woke.

Being Woke

Being woke in my humble opinion is being aware of the life and sufferings of others. It’s also having concern for the well-being of others. Sure, it’s easy to just ignore all the stuff going on in the world but I believe that having some sympathy and empathy for the plight of our fellow human beings is a good thing. Wokeness is a byproduct of people being tired of injustice, oppression, and being discriminated against.

I have always thought that “political correctness” is more akin to demanding people be treated better and recognizing their differences should not disqualify their participation in society. It’s also just exercising politeness and courtesy and that is a basic human need.

I hope that we can return to being civil and making our world communities better places. We so desperately need some goodness in this place we call our global home.
