Quote Of The Day

The average 21st century Christian is more Pharisee than Christlike.

A person named Marie said this today and I agree with her 100%….

  1. Unfortunately, I’m going to have to take issue with the statement on structural grounds. Replace the word “Christian” with any other demographic, and then substitute a different criticism, and it would be argued to be stereotyping.

The criticism is only acceptable in its generalities because of who it criticizes.

    1. Don’t get me wrong, there are Pharasees in all walks of life. No one is perfect but everyone in their calling is working toward perfection. We need to create a platform for that to happen that encourages everyone.

      1. Thank you, Tony,

I wholeheartedly agree with your statement. My issue is the idea that in a day, when rhetorical statements that start with “the average —-” can end a political career, it still manages to be palatable to make those statements about Christians. It’s an implied statistical statement.

That being said, I also am very keen to make sure that crazies and pharisaical representatives of my faith are not deftly used to make me tacitly sign on to social issues of which I don’t agree–just because their repugnant deliveries are ALWAYS focused on by the press.

And lastly, I am aware that God loves us all–sinners and wrecks and rubble and flotsam and Jetsam. I was chief among them. But I will always teach my children that something had to change, and “pressing towards the mark” is part of the deal.

Keep blogging, man! I’m always looking out!
