Rambling About The Death Penalty

Tonight in Georgia a woman is on death row set to die for the murder of her husband. Kelly Gissendaner did a very bad thing, but should it mean she should die too? You might be surprised that I have supported the death penalty, but now I am having new thoughts about it. Are we a society where capital punishment is still an option? In many places in this country and around the world it is.

Is justice really served with an eye for an eye? As Pope Francis said recently life is precious and with that being said, should we end one life to get redemption/revenge for the taking of another life. Some would say there are situations where it is warranted such as in the cases where children are concerned. As a believer I am concerned with the aspects of justice where some on death row are wrongly convicted of crimes they did not commit. So many are in prisons for life because of bad evidence and witness testimony.

This is not an easy thing to figure out. Perhaps we should all work to be sure things like crimes don’t happen so the death penalty are not an issue. Everyone has their own views and no two people agree about every aspect of this difficult subject. Death is a serious thing, it will always be.

  1. Tony, I just posted a comment on my other blog (lifeattitudes) about the Pope’s weekend visit to our area and specifically to a prison where he not only met with inmates but their families. I was moved by his appearance and as a result am very much rethinking the death penalty as well.

  2. My thought is this…if someone kills another person and we feel that is wrong, are we justified to then kill that person? We are doing the same thing we are condemning that person for. It just doesn’t make sense to me. Wrong is wrong or it isn’t. We can’t pick and choose. Just my opinion 😉

    1. I am not a fan of abortion but it should be available in cases where the mother is raped or her life is in peril. A fetus might be a life form but it shouldn’t have more importance than a person whose life is at risk.

  3. I used to be in favor of the death penalty, but what changed my mind was the idea that once you execute someone that there’s a finality there. If the wrong person is executed, once you do that, there’s no turning back.

  4. I live in a country where the death penalty is not done. So because of where I live, I say that some people should be hanged. Bring hanging back 😛

  5. Hanging should be brought back for people like a mom who decides to drown her toddler and baby in her home bathtub. This murder is also not done out of post partum depression. This mom murders her own kids just to keep them from going into the custody of the father that she is in the process of divorcing.

I have too often seen this scenario of a woman being a selfish twat.

I also can be called cold hearted, but I don’t care and I value kids’ lives more so than a corrupt adult or an adult who murders kids.
