I don’t think that it is “wrong”. However, you can’t control what other people get excited about. Lowering your expectations and you’ll have fewer disappointments. This is something that I struggle with on a daily basis. Other people don’t see things the same way you do. The things that excite me and make me anxious are completely different then other people, even the most important people in my life!!
‘Wrong’ is a strong word but I don’t think it’s particularly appropriate, everyone is different and people should be able to empathise with this. You can’t just expect people to be enthusiastic because it makes you feel good. Having said that, if you have particularly good / exciting news, it’s nice if people make the effort to be enthusiastic on your behalf. But in every day life, you can’t expect it.
I think it isn’t wrong to want people to be as enthusiastic as you, as it very natural to expect people to treat you the way you’re treating them. But from the little experiences that I’ve had, I have learnt that the more expectations you keep, the more room for negativity you are creating for yourself. So if we kill expectations and let people decide what they wish to do then it wouldn’t hurt much if they do not reciprocate the way we expected them to and in case they do it would be like brownie points. So I believe we should say yes to surprises and no to expectations! Hope it makes sense :))
we all have different types of friends ranging from them being luke warm to just as enthusiastic as we are. you’re going to have a very narrow view of the world if you will only want people around you that you view are a mirror reflection of you. diversity is the key. besides surrounding yourself with little clones of you is boring.
Nope, it is not wrong. When I’m enthusiastic about something… I’m basically giddy with excitement and just buzzing. I don’t even care if other people are not as excited…I’m really selfish with my enthusiasm, basically thinking ‘more for me’. I do know what it’s like when you are buzzing and other people aren’t but it should never stop your buzz.
A little enthusiasm and interest goes a long way. People are different, yes, but when I’m with a friend who’s very excited about, say, learning Japanese (something I am not at all interested into/enthused about), I can’t help but be happy, too.
It’s a nice feeling being excited about something and people around you being excited for you and not downing you out.
