Is what I say and post here interesting enough to be seen by a wider audience? Should I pursue increasing the numbers of people who read this blog. Would it be a little narcissistic? I have over 1400 followers, would more just be more or would more be better and that sort of thing? What would you say?

Just keep doing what you love to do. People who’ll read your posts will become one of your loyal follows. It’s not always about the numbers, but who we end up connecting with on WP. Took me a long time to get there, but that’s what I believe. Wishing you the best.
