Phones used to not have caller ID or anything fancy. You just answered it when it rang. These days people screen their calls or just don’t bother with it all. Landlines have been fading away for years in favor of mobile phones or calling over the Internet. It’s old school when you use your phone as a speech-based communication device.

Very true. I have a really old fashioned landline because I live out of mobile range. I’m constantly made aware that I’m using candles in an electrified world.
