Two Rants for Sunday

I am a positive person but sometimes I gotta rant a little. Everyone else does it so here I go.

The following is based upon something my wife and I experienced today at Dunkin Donuts. A older woman came up to us, someone we don’t know and she was rude. She made an assumption based upon what we were doing at the time. We were on our smartphones minding our own business and she thought we were texting one another.

Just because someone is using their smartphone doesn’t mean they are texting. They could be emailing, doing a grocery list, checking social media, reading a book or blogging. Oh yeah they can also be used for talking too…novel concept.

Also when you get older it doesn’t give you right to say whatever you want to whoever. You might hurt someone deeply. I never want to be that old guy who goes around unfiltered.

Yourself

It’s hard to be yourself sometimes. However in the end it’s worth it. Being weird is a great freedom. The world needs originals, not copies. Everyone should be able to be themselves without being ridiculed. Be who you are meant to be good people.

Zesty Sauce

If you want a nice, tangy sauce to dip fries, onion rings, that sort of thing…this is for you.

There are literally hundreds of versions of this sauce, with about as many names for it. This one is mine.

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper (preferably fresh-ground)
  • 1/4 tsp chili powder (optional)

Stir together well (I use a Pampered Chef prep bowl with lid because the measurements are marked on the side). Store in fridge until ready to use. You can also double it and mix in a pint jar; it should keep for a couple of weeks at least.

This sauce is great for fries, onion rings, tater tots, salmon or tuna patties, seafood, even as a salad dressing! You can easily adjust the ingredients to create a hibachi white sauce (e.g., soy sauce for the Worcestershire and add a dash of Sriracha).

Introducing Soupdiva.net

My wife has migrated her food blog from Tumblr to WordPress. Please visit http://soupdiva.net which has some great recipes and other information on the stuff that nourishes her body and soul. She has some great stuff there that is easy to fix. Most of it you can do in a slow cooker. Check it out. Thanks!

Older People

Older people enjoy the company of younger folks. Yes there are exceptions to that rule but I think being in the company of wise folks can benefit everyone. There are amazing stories from people who are seasoned citizens, people who have lived through a lot of different things. You can learn a lot from someone who’s been around the block a time or two. As a younger person there is life changing wisdom that can be gained. Be open to cross-generational opportunities for friendship.
