I am back in my old work neighborhood temporarily while my new work neighborhood has a major plumbing issue resolved. It’s fun seeing some old and familiar faces again. I don’t know how long I’ll be here but I’m going to enjoy it as long as I can.

I am not a big fruit person. I know they are important, but they need to be transformed. Fruits that have been cooked into something I do like. Figs made into preserves like my Great Grandmother used to make is a favorite. I can also eat them dried. I enjoy a good apple pie with whipped cream on top. Raisins come from grapes and they are a favorite snack. I can eat strawberries raw. Tomato is a fruit technically, and I enjoy it used in a wide variety of things such as ketchup, salsa, marinara sauce and other savory applications.
There were lots of hopefuls in the Conclave. My personal favorite was the Cardinal Tagle from the Philippines. I certainly didn’t have a Cardinal from Chicago/Peru on my radar at all. Robert Francis Prevost was chosen by the College of Cardinals as the 267th Pope, and he will go by Leo XIV. The new Pope holds a math degree from Villanova and is an Augustinian.
Most of his career was spent as a missionary, so he knows how to be among the people, like Pope Francis. It will be interesting to see what he does and how much he will emulate Francis.
I am not a Catholic, but I hold the Catholic Church in high esteem. My hope is that he will energize the faithful and inspire them to reach out to those on the margins. God be with Leo XVI.
