Today, we remember the lives lost and those who have served. Veterans Day in the United States honors those who have served their country in the military. In the Commonwealth of Nations of Britain, including Canada, Remembrance Day honors those whose lives have been lost in defending their nation. In both observances, it’s the recognition of the sacrifice of oneself for freedom and for the ones they love.
In the aftermath of the 2024 election it is going to be important for allies and supporters of marginalized people. I am a cis gendered white male and I want to know how to be a better ally to the groups that are under threat and persecution especially women and LGBTQIA+ people. I will try my best to do good stuff but I do know I will make mistakes. Guidance is helpful here. What can I do to be of help.
This is what I’m doing at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church this morning. Livestreaming our worship service and house sound is something I do at church so people who can’t be at church can worship in real time or whenever they can tune in. Check it out on YouTube.
Reality is reality. However, we need to escape from reality to get through life. Whatever helps you escape, do what makes your weird little heart happy. Also, don’t stress out over stupid things. I have a gut feeling that in the years ahead we will all need to do things to help us emotionally get by. Seek joy and engage in the nerdiest and fun stuff you can. Be who you need to be in the moment. Be good to you and to others. Get your head out of this world. Return to it when you are ready.
I am here if you need someone to listen to what’s going on in your heart and head. Love and peace.
Today I have chosen to be totally lazy. Although there is a part of me that says I should be doing stuff. Sometimes self-care is hard. I need to be better at doing nothing however when you think about it doing nothing is really doing something.
