Throwback Thursday #TBT – Rick Astley – Never Gonna Give You Up – 30 Years Old

This song is a classic that has stood the test of time. It’s 30 years old as of this year. Yeah I know people my age are saying no its not but there is no denying it. Rick Astley brings you one of the top 20 songs of the 1980’s, well at least I think so.

Music Monday – Dexy’s Midnight Runners – Come On Eileen

In the spirit of my fiddle picture I present to you Dexy’s Midnight Runners “Come On Eileen” which has a great fiddle arrangement throughout the tune. The fiddle is one of the great instrument in pop music because it can add some spark to any song. This particular song is one of the greats of the 1980’s.

Tunes Tuesday – Devo – “Whip It”

“Whip It” is one of Devo’s most popular songs. The video is just weird in all the right ways. It along with other songs inspired “Weird Al” Yankovic’s “Dare To Be Stupid”.

Music Monday – Corey Hart – Sunglasses At Night

Being a prescription glasses wearer all my life wearing sunglasses most anytime is not always a good thing. My preferred style is Wayfarers from Ray Ban. This one hit wonder from 1984 has held up over time and I hear it a lot on the music station I listen to in Chattanooga.

Saturday Sounds – Sting – Russians

This song seems to be appropriate for the times in which we live. “Russians” comes from the 1985 album Dream of The Blue Turtles. Sting’s early solo work inspired me and helped me shape my world view as a teenager. America might not be at odds with the Russians like we were back in the day but there is still a little animosity. Today there are new people we are afraid of.

#FBF – Flashback Friday – Air Supply – Lost In Love

From one of the cheesiest duos of the 1980, this tandem from Australia are the kings of sappy pop of the era. I think its way cool music that is easy on the ears.
