It is St. Patrick’s Day and I am wearing the traditional green as one does. The shirt I am wearing is from Blood Assurance the blood bank I work for as a gift to our blood donors. I know for sure I won’t get pinched today. May the luck of the Irish be with you today and of course get into good shenanigans like donating blood.
I made my last blood donation for 2023 in advance of the holidays. This time of year blood donors are needed to help keep a good inventory available for those in need and for emergencies. As a blood bank worker I’m always glad to help.
You even get a donor gift and snacks for donating. That’s a cool part of the experience.
I work for Blood Assurance, a Chattanooga , Tennessee based regional blood bank as a Telerecruiter. That means that I’m on the phones every day asking donors to come in for another blood donation. I work with a team of people who like me are tasked with helping to insure a safe and adequate blood supply for the people and hospitals we serve. It’s not an easy job but it’s important work. Success comes from lives saved and making a connection with donors in the community who also want to help save lives with their blood donations.
There is a nationwide blood shortage and I’m doing what I can to help with that. Since I work for a blood bank it’s something that concerns me daily. Donating is a great thing to do and it’s easy. My next donation will be in November.
I donated blood today at Church which brings together a couple of worlds of mine. Twice a year we do a blood drive which I organize because it helps those in need. In full disclosure, I work at Blood Assurance which is our regional blood bank that brings a mobile donation unit to the church. We do this as an outreach to our community to provide life-saving blood to patients in the hospitals we serve.
