Going To The Polls: Voting Today In Tennessee

Go-Vote-500x500

It’s election day in Tennessee. We are voting on state primaries and county general races and federal primaries. Voting is an important part of every democracy. Today’s voting leads up to the general election in the Fall when we elect a new president in the United States.

This picture of the Movable Wall was stylized using PRISMA. I like the way it looks. This app gives a different look to my photos. It looks like art doesn’t it?

The Moving Wall, Vietnam Memorial Comes To #Chattanooga

This weekend in downtown Chattanooga at Ross’ Landing The Moving Wall is in town. This is a 1/2 scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial that’s in Washington, DC. This features every name of those killed in action during the Vietnam war. There are over 58,000 names listed on the wall. 58,000 men and women who gave their lives for our country. People from all walks of life left their family and friends never to return. Honor those who served but always work for peace.

My father belongs the Tri-State Military Vehicle Club and they had some vintage jeeps and an ambulance for visitors to the wall to see. These vehicles are an important part of fighting a war.

The picture at the bottom represent the fallen five servicemen who were killed at a military post here in Chattanooga back in July of 2015. Honoring the service and real sacrifice of those who put on the uniform of my country is what this community does in a very special way. Thanks to all who have or are currently serving.

On July 16, 2015 in Chattanooga, TN we lost five servicemen who were just living their lives and doing their jobs. A young man who himself is a victim of sorts attacked a recruiting office and then a naval reserve center where he ended the lives of these five men. Today we remember them for their sacrifice and service. Thank you:

  • Lance Cpl. Squire “Skip” Wells
  • Sgt. Carson Holmquist
  • Gunnery Sgt. Thomas Sullivan
  • Staff Sgt. David Wyatt
  • Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Randall Smith (who died a couple days later)

There’s A National Blood Supply Shortage And You Can Help

20160714_093411.jpg

Across the United States there is a significant blood supply shortage. Donations are down this time of year. I work for Blood Assurance, a regional blood bank located in Chattanooga, TN and there is less than a one day supply of many blood types. All it takes is a serious trauma to wipe out inventory of available units. Recently in Orlando they experienced an emergency need of blood due to the night club shooting. On July 16th, 2015 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, five servicemen were killed by a terrorist at a local military center. Of those five there was sailor who was needed dozens of units of blood to give him a chance of survival.

Blood donations are important to individuals who have to have blood to survive whether it be a person in an accident, a cancer patient or someone who has lost blood due to a surgery. Every donation saves 3 lives but it does so much more for those who need it.

You can help and it doesn’t take much of your time. Contact your local blood bank and schedule a donation. Encourage those in your life who can to make a donation too. It’s about life and community. It’s a great way to make the world a better place by helping someone live. Blood is needed at all times, you never know when you might need it. No matter where you are in the world you can help save lives.
