One thing I have learned over the years is that jewelry is a big thing during the holidays. If you are a man you see commercials driving home the point that if you don’t get your special someone some really expensive jewelry you should feel horrible.
I think it’s a ploy to make people spend money they really don’t have. Well that could be said for any gift. The cheapest gifts can set you back a lot of dough. However jewelry seems to glow and enchants the eye. In the end you want to make your mate feel happy. I haven’t fallen for that pressure. My wife has simple tastes which is nice. It’s the thought that counts, right.
Tonight we went on an imaginary journey to the north pole from the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum. It was a fun trip that made us remember the times when we heard stories of Santa and Mrs. Claus. We enjoyed a voyage like that of “The Polar Express” except we didn’t encounter many caribou. During the trip they gave us a snack and a jingle bell. This is a great holiday attraction that is right here in Chattanooga, Tennessee that families of all types can enjoy. Christmas is better when you do things like this.
Today is also the Feast Day of St. Nicholas so this fun event was very appropriate.
Holiday movies are like friends you see once a year. Of course you don’t have to see them just during the holidays but they are special that way. There are great characters and places that make the season more colorful.
Our favorites are
Christmas Vacation
Elf
Last Holiday
The Holiday
White Christmas
Meet Me In St. Louis
Serendipity
Fallen Angel
Disney’s The Christmas Carol
A Christmas Story
The Nativity Story
A Charlie Brown Christmas
The Muppet Christmas Carol
Hallmark Christmas Movies
It’s A Wonderful Life
The Polar Express
Love Actually
The Santa Clause Movies
And there are more. Without these movies its just not the same.
Today was the first Sunday of Advent in our new church and I took a few picture to capture the experience of the day. It’s going to be great season leading up to Christmas. We are glad to be at St. Peter’s Episcopal in Chattanooga.
Today was Small Business Saturday, a day set aside to promote small businesses in the midst of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. American Express is championing this effort to help independent retailers have a big impact on the economy during the holiday shopping season. We did our part today to help the economy and to put some money into the til of some of our favorite businesses on the North Shore of Chattanooga.
