Something About Life, Liberty, Happiness

“Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” is a well-known phrase in the United States Declaration of Independence. This is also something that I feel should be extended to every human being around the world.

No matter who we are or where we come from everyone should have the right to a life of their choosing, the liberty to work for it and the freedom to pursue Happiness. One thing I would say is that no human being should prevent another from being able to be who they want as long as its legal, ethical and does not impact others in a negative way. So that means you can’t go streaking naked through a movie theatre yelling fire, fire!

No matter who you are, you should be able to dream big, achieve big and to do good things that can make a difference for your friends and neighbors. America is great when life, liberty and happiness are accessible to everyone no matter creed, orientation, race or ethnicity. It’s my hope no matter where you live in the world you have the opportunities to be who you choose to be in the place where you are now.

Be happy and make the world a better place by being yourself and living well.

Something About Relevance

Being relevant is more important than being trendy. I think that relevance is a long-term solution to being timely and timeless. Being relevant means that you are working hard to keep up with the world around you. It also requires an open mind and loving heart. At least that’s what I think. What do you think?

A Ramble About Keeping Your Cool In The Lean Moments

To make anything happen when you are short on resources requires ingenuity and team work. I have been reminded of how you have to inspire others and to remain positive when things are not optimal in the situation you are in. For many the reaction when you are behind the eight ball is to panic but you can’t do that. Cooler heads will always prevail.

You have to be a little fearless and experimental to get through the obstacles of the moment. Now it’s OK to be a little afraid as long as you don’t show those cards to anyone. Confidence is a significant asset too (something I am working on) but most importantly keeping your focus on the task at hand can lead to good things. Always keep your chin up your eyes looking forward and find your motivation to move forward.

There’s A National Blood Supply Shortage And You Can Help

20160714_093411.jpg

Across the United States there is a significant blood supply shortage. Donations are down this time of year. I work for Blood Assurance, a regional blood bank located in Chattanooga, TN and there is less than a one day supply of many blood types. All it takes is a serious trauma to wipe out inventory of available units. Recently in Orlando they experienced an emergency need of blood due to the night club shooting. On July 16th, 2015 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, five servicemen were killed by a terrorist at a local military center. Of those five there was sailor who was needed dozens of units of blood to give him a chance of survival.

Blood donations are important to individuals who have to have blood to survive whether it be a person in an accident, a cancer patient or someone who has lost blood due to a surgery. Every donation saves 3 lives but it does so much more for those who need it.

You can help and it doesn’t take much of your time. Contact your local blood bank and schedule a donation. Encourage those in your life who can to make a donation too. It’s about life and community. It’s a great way to make the world a better place by helping someone live. Blood is needed at all times, you never know when you might need it. No matter where you are in the world you can help save lives.

Just Getting By In The Place Where We Are

I think there are a lot of people just trying to get by that they fail to think about much past what they are doing in the next 24 hours. So many people chose to live in a community of their choosing where they can be comfortable in their beliefs and opinions without understanding how someone else lives. Too often we chose ignorance over enlightenment because its easy. It’s almost like the movie “The Matrix” in how we all live and operate and in a numbness to the things going on around us that have deep personal, local and global implications. We all have a responsibility to one another but our selfish nature doesn’t allow for any other options.

Life has become expendable. Just look at the news and you will find that is true. Too many young people are dying on the mean streets and on the battlefield. A generation of our best and brightest must find a way forward so we just don’t have to get by, perhaps we can thrive if we dare too.

Trust me when your life is lived moment to moment, paycheck to paycheck, day by day sometimes getting by is the best you can do. Sharing the struggles of life can give one some empathy and sympathy to the plight of others. Getting angry about ones situation can just empty your soul and harden your heart if you let it.

Relying upon the good graces of those who care can soften the edges and can help you get through it all. Being generous with time, talents, spirit and soul can give you eternal rewards. Try to be positive whenever possible. Faith can move mountains but you have to do your part too. Love will find a way, at least I think so.
