Independence Day, A Family Holiday Tradition #independenceday #id4 #movies

The aliens are coming and their goal is to invade and destroy Earth. Fighting superior technology, mankind’s best weapon is the will to survive.

It’s hard to believe that on July 2, 2016 this movie will be 20 years old. The film has aged well and I think it remains one of the best of its genre. There is great storytelling and plenty of action. Lots of stuff gets blown up, normally that bothers me about movies but in this one it doesn’t seem to.

Will Smith became a superstar because of his role in Independence Day. The casting in this movie is top notch too with lots of well-known names such as Jeff Goldblum, Robert Loggia, Judd Hirsch, Mary McDonnell, Vivica A. Fox and Harvey Fierstein.

This movie is a 4th of July holiday tradition. We watch it every year.

Saturday Sounds: Olivia Newton John – Xanadu

I absolutely love this movie and the music from it. Some have called it cheesy and bad but they are wrong. This flick is about music and love and dreaming a little. Olivia Newton John is quite the muse. This movie is full of high class schmaltz.

Friday Night Movie – Notting Hill – A Super Rom Com

This gem from 1999 features a lot of stars. Julia Roberts, Hugh Grant, Hugh Bonneville, Emma Chambers, Richard McCabe, Rhys Ifans, Clarke Peters and Alec Baldwin among a few others.

Richard Curtis who also did Four Weddings and a Funeral along with Love Actually gives a screenplay that tells a great story about an unlikely romance between a high powered actress and a travel book shop owner. It’s a great romantic comedy.

Galaxy Quest – Never Give Up, Never Surrender

Featuring a great cast this movie is satire at its finest. Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Tony Shalhoub and the late Alan Rickman make this movie awesome. Fandoms and cosplay have a very central role in this movie. It has a great message of life imitating art and courage…and did I mention Enrico Colantoni too?

Top Gun @ 30 Years Old…Time Has Flown By

Fly Me To The Danger Zone and Take My Breath Away this iconic movie of the 1980’s is 30 years old. Ouch, that makes me old too. Top Gun still holds up well and is packed full of stars. If you have never seen it, check it out. This is one of two movies I can deal with Tom Cruise in. Time has definitely flown by and I wonder what Maverick is doing now?

“Twister” 20 Years On

19873241

Twenty years today this movie was released and it became one of the best weather disaster movies of the era. It still has relevance today. Academy Award winner Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton are excellent in this movie about a estranged couple who go out and to chase the big tornado. The late Philip Seymour Hoffman plays a great supporting role.

This is one of my favorite movies because of the action, the story, the effects and the actors.
