The Yearly Taxing Situation

Today, April 18, 2023, is when individual income taxes are due in the United States. I am glad to pay my taxes. To me, it’s the cost of living in a community or country that provides you with services such as education, sanitation, fire service, police protection, national defense, maintained roads, and other things that make life better. However when you get hit with a tax bill more than you thought it would be it’s a true shock to the system.

Sure it’s a matter of having enough money and enough withheld from your paycheck but still it’s not an easy pill to swallow. I guess it means making adjustments and rolling with the punches. Death and taxes are indeed life’s certainties.

Also don’t forget to pay the cheese tax to your dog. If you don’t know what I am talking about go on YouTube or Instagram and search for it.

Hello There Monday

Welp it’s Monday and we have a new week that awaits. Have a great day good people.

Music Of The Spirit

This morning my priest started a series of faith formation classes on music and how it informs and inspires believers spiritually. It’s about engaging the heart as well as the soul in coming closer to one’s higher power. Music can move you more than just words alone.

How Sweet The Sound from St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Chattanooga, TN.

Music has a long history in religious life. Its expression comes in various genres and different sects of Christianity and other faiths. Coming from a Team Jesus perspective I can say that music is an integral part of everything done in the church. In the coming weeks, I will be posting about what we are learning and hopefully listening to.

Thought of The Day 04132023

In the musical The Sound of Music the hills were alive with the sound of music…and Nazi’s. Discuss.

Easter 2023 Reflection

He has risen, now what? The celebration of Easter is perpetual. God’s people cannot just show up on Christmas and Easter because the faith of Christians is a challenge to be active, communal, and loving. It requires believers to love as we are loved by Jesus.

God is good and I am down with that sentiment. But are his people? Not always but that is what forgiveness and love are about. That is the power of resurrection. God loves his people and we have to be reminded that love overcomes a lot of stuff.

Remember the love of the returning Christ is also a call to resist the evils of fear, hate, and other things that do great harm to our friends and neighbors. Be yourselves but be the best you can with a little help from fellow misfits like Jesus.

Good Friday Reflection

Note: This reflection is meant to share my feelings and thoughts on the Christian observance of Good Friday. I respect the faith traditions of people who in good faith are willing to have dialogue with others.

Today is Good Friday and as usual I’m taking a different spin on it. Sure it’s the day when Jesus went to the cross. It’s the day when chaos broke out. It was the day when love reigned and ruled. The death of Jesus was about coming attractions and the future of humanity. The most important thing to remember is that he lived radically and loved everyone along the way. Without all the work he did his death would not mean as much. For those who say they aren’t worthy of Jesus’ love and sacrifice miss the point because he would not have endured the pain unless he thought we were worth it all. In the light of recent events Jesus reminds us that love should blow the hell out of fear and hate. So on this day of darkness remember the light of love will shine soon enough.
