Tonight the Rio Olympics officially start in Rio. Athletes from around the world will gather to compete for gold, silver and bronze. It’s always an exciting time to see these games with ancient roots. May the athletes and others gathering and be safe from harm and that peace will be the theme of the events.
Congratulations to the Cleveland Cavaliers who won the NBA Finals tonight. This breaks the dry spell for sports championships for the city. LeBron James fulfilled a promise to bring a title to his city. It’s a great story of positive action and dreaming.
Today the teams of the men’s Division I basketball tournament will be announced. My alma mater Middle Tennessee State University and my hometown team Chattanooga Mocs are in the tournament. The drama is to find out when, where and who they will be playing this week. For those outside the USA this is one of the biggest sporting events of the year. College/University basketball is a sport and a spectacle that has the hearts and minds of people from all across our country.
Fifteen years ago Dale Earnhardt the legendary NASCAR race car driver died in an accident a the Daytona International Speedway. Earnhardt was one of the greatest ever in the sport. He was a multiple time Winston Cup Champion. At 49 he left the world way too soon. There will never be another of his kind.
This Sunday is Super Bowl 50 where the Carolina Panthers take on the Denver Broncos for the Vince Lombardi trophy symbolic of the best team in American Football. As we I go along the weekend I will be posting a few things about the game. It’s going to be a great game with two great teams.
