And Now The News Break

I have been a news junkie for years. Whenever news breaks I want to know what is happening minute by minute. Local and national coverage is what sometimes crave. I am partial to Scott Pelley of The CBS Evening News but I do like Lester Holt too. Our sources of information have grown and they are faster than ever. I am a believer in keeping up with issues that affect us all. Without information, making good decisions is harder and the news can help us make sense of the world and our communities. Unfortunately good news does not always mean great ratings.

However the United States Presidential election has me a little blue and weary of the whole thing. Both parties have had their candidates out for months and the public is a little tired of it all. Yes there are other things happening in the world but those events aren’t so good either. What we see on TV, print and online is kind of depressing. It concerns me that my love of news is waning a bit. I listen to National Public Radio to and from work but now I find that a little depressing. Hearing about the candidates and what they want to do has been overwhelming especially when you consider the choices we have before us.

Some days I just have to have some music that takes me back to a simpler time in life. I think we all need to get away from the negative stuff that keeps seeping into our heads. A little tune can help us cope with what’s going on. I am not saying we should bury our heads in the sand but sometimes fiction and fun can be the rule of the day. No matter what we all need to not take the world around us so seriously we forget how to relax and enjoy the better angels of our world.

My friends, stay in touch with the important stuff….but don’t lose your heart, soul and minds to it all. Unplug, it’s OK.

  1. It’s good to unplug. When we’re immersed in what’s going on in the world, we get saturated with stuff. Although we may like the news because it can be good, we should remember to practice all things in moderation.
