Rambling About Reblogging

I wish there was a setting that would prevent selected blogs from being reblogged by other users. Personally I don’t reblog a lot of stuff because I believe in generating original content. I will only reblog something if it fits in the philosophy of my blog. There is some value in reblogging because of the traffic it generates but there is also a creepy aspect about re-posting something personal from another blogger. With a little imagination and creativity people can do amazing work.

  1. I used to reblog all the time but then an update prevented me from ever doing so. Some folks used to accuse me of plagiarism but it couldn’t possibly be plagiarized if it clearly states “Originally posted on _____”

Tony, if you don’t want people to reblog your material, why don’t you disable that option then?

      1. I don’t usually use WordPress on a computer or on the Browser but for the sake of this discussion and you, I made an exception. I found it on the Sharing Setting. Check it out because you may have it enabled and all it takes is you checking the disabled box to remove that feature for good. Let me know if that helped.

        1. Perfect! I also found it on the app too. Apparently it can be disabled the same exact way on here too. Anytime Tony, I’m glad I could help.

  2. I’ve a reblogged a couple of times, but that 2/3 posts were perfectly in sync with my blog’s content. I think, people reblog perhaps, to show the support and solidarity. But, often I’ve seen posts getting reblogged just for apparently no valid reasons.

  3. Since I run a “niche” blog (classic movies), I rarely reblog, unless something that fits that niche really strikes my fancy, and I think my readers will enjoy it. Otherwise, it’s original content all the way.

  4. I’ve only reblog perhaps once, but I do re-post my original work occasionally for the purpose of moving older information forward during times I want to highlight certain subject matters. I don’t do that often, but I do.

  5. What sort of gets to me if the times I’ve been reblogged and the person reblogging has gained 21 or so likes and my original post is sat here with 5… if someone re blogs I always make a point of clicking the like button on the original!

  6. I’ve found that it helps if you state ‘please feel free to share’ at the end of posts that are ok to reblog and just sign off, or request that people ask before reblogging, it helps.

  7. I only reblog pieces I really like or my own posts. In fact, other bloggers have b****ed at me about reblogging their stuff before. I explained why and apologized. I don’t care if people reblog my things, but I think wordpress got rid of that option now.

  8. It’s been a while since i fiddled in the blog settings, but I’m sure there is/was the choice whether to show the reblog button or not. Just like you can choose which social media platforms you will or won’t allow your posts to be shared to.
