I am not the greatest when it comes to punctuation but I do know that when you talk about American currency you put the dollar sign ($) before you put the number. It’s something I learned a long time ago and its the proper way of writing it. Lately I have seen a trend of writing for example 200$ as in 200 dollars, it’s supposed to be $200. It might be a little thing but for those who are in writing, publishing and marketing that can make or break your business because details are actually a big thing if you are trying to win over clients and gain new business.
What do you think of the Dairy Queen commercials? Do they drive you crazy?!? Just in case you don’t know what I’m talking about, their current ad is for the “$5 Buck Lunch”. I emailed them (because it was driving me crazy!) and asked if they realized that it actually reads as…. five dollar buck lunch. I also went on to tell them that at one of our local stores, there’s a statue of a buck in front of the strip mall where it’s located. They didn’t see the humor and simply replied that they were sorry that I didn’t like their advertising.

Yeah, that’s kind of redundant. Say $5 lunch or Five Buck….not a mashup of the two.

Oh my gosh, I’ve noticed that too. I thought I was being a little silly that it annoyed me. Thanks for this post.

OMG! I have so many issues with grammar. My sister and I get our skills from my mom and dad. My dad is good at spelling and grammar (I take after him), my mom is good at math (sis takes after her). I can’t stand if someone does not put something like a simple $ sign in the right place. I’m not perfect, don’t get me wrong, but it annoys me so much. Maybe it’s just me though.
