There is something sentimental about hearing a dial-up modem log on to the Internet. I remember the distinct sound of two computers shaking hands on the network. Everything from a 28.8, 33.6, and 56K modem got us onto the World Wide Web using services like AOL, Mindspring, Compuserve, Earthlink, Prodigy, and many others.
Interesting. I find there’s something chilling about the sound. It reminds me of struggle and unreliability, delays and work that disappeared . . .
Each to his own. 🙂
