Hi there, my name is Tony Burgess (my friends call me T-Bird) from Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA. I am a believer, bleeding heart, idealist, and blogger. I'm married to Laura the Soup Diva and a dog dad to Frankie, Cody, and Mikey. Daily I work for a blood bank recruiting donors. My blog is where I chronicle and curate the sacred, serious, and silly things in my life. I am a member of The Episcopal Church. Thank you for connecting with me. Grace, peace, and love!

1984 A Delayed Future Perhaps

Because Big Brother said so. Stunning and frightening all at the same time. I hope this remains speculation and not reality.

Something About Future Posts

Expect a lot of blogging about the current state of affairs in my country. I am dedicated to helping make this world a better place free of hate, xenophobia, homophobia, racism and ethnocentrism. Of course there will be posts about the good thing happening personally, globally and locally. It is important to know this is still a place where I chronicle and curate all the things in my life. Thanks for continuing to follow and offer feedback.

The World Will Be Won

The world will be won by the little guy trying to get by on less. It will be won by the nurse who is working a double to be sure their patients are going to be alright. The world will be won by the nerd who finds a cure for a disease. The world will be won by a student who is discovering science and Shakespeare and Rowling. The world will be won by extravagant displays of love that will change people. The world will be won by a beat cop playing football with the neighborhood kids. The world will be won by a young person in a small village in a place you never heard about organizing their community. The world will be won by a believer living their faith instead of talking about it. The world will be won by a family of three escaping persecution. The world will be won by people who have faith in science and nature. The world will be won by a person donating their time and life blood. The world will be won by people who give a damn and loving those seeking asylum.

The world will be won by you, if you want to win it.

Give Me Your Tired, Poor, Huddled Masses #statueofliberty

“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!” These lines are from the poem “The New Colossus,” written by Emma Lazarus in 1883.

My friends from around the world, know that my country is a better place than what you have seen in the past week. One thing I would say is that there are people still fighting for genuine freedom here. Wherever you are work to make the world and your own neighborhoods the best they can be.
