Hi there, my name is Tony Burgess (my friends call me T-Bird) from Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA. I am a believer, bleeding heart, idealist, and blogger. I'm married to Laura the Soup Diva and a dog dad to Frankie, Cody, and Mikey. Daily I work for a blood bank recruiting donors. My blog is where I chronicle and curate the sacred, serious, and silly things in my life. I am a member of The Episcopal Church. Thank you for connecting with me. Grace, peace, and love!

Rain

We have had a lot of Summertime rain here in the Chattanooga area lately. It has rained every day for awhile now. The rain can stop anytime now. I wish it would like go to places out west like California that need it desperately because they are in a drought situation. Rain is necessary to life but there can be too much of a good thing. The thing about rain is that can color ones mood and ruin ones plans. I am ready for some drier days ahead with an occasional shower. It’s Summertime after all and it should be sunny after all.

A Ramble About Calling Me “Bud”

I have been in a couple of retail environments lately where male retail assistants have called me “bud” because they don’t know my name. Now I know I live in the south and for some it just comes naturally but for some reason when they call me “bud” it irks me. My grandmother called me “bud” on occasion but that’s my grandmother, she could call me whatever she liked, she earned that right. In a retail environment I would rather be called “sir” not that I am snobby but to me it makes sense to address strangers as sir and to be a little more formal. Perhaps it’s a generational as well as a cultural thing but I think the word “bud” is for a buddy or someone you know.

Also I hate the term “big guy”, yes I know I am a larger sized person but that one also makes me cringe. If you know me call me Tony or T-Bird, either is fine but if you don’t know me or any other person, start off with “sir” it’s a matter of respect that will be returned in kind.

Neil Diamond – America

Original video of Neil Diamond performing America from The Jazz Singer, presented here remastered in clean DTS Digital Sound from the limited edition 25th Anniversary release of The Jazz Singer

This is my favorite America themed song. This is a powerful statement about what it is to come to America for opportunity and freedom.

I do not like the cone of shame on Independence Day or any other for that matter. #poorcodydog via Instagram http://ift.tt/1GXvU3d

Freedom

As America celebrates its freedom we must insure that every person is indeed free to be who they were created to be. Freedom means having a responsibility to one another. People must have the liberty to worship, live and love in the manner they choose. When one group seeks to deny freedoms others enjoy then we all are at risk.

Freedoms come at a cost and its one we all must be willing to pay and it should never be used to exploit people for financial gain. Many in the world have the right to express themselves while others must go underground to seek the change they want to see. I hope for people of all walks of life they will one day be free to be who they are meant to be.

“When we lose the right to be different, we lose the privilege to be free.
Charles Evans Hughes

A Ramble on America

I salute those who embody the spirit of America by doing things to make life better for everyone. To my fellow Americans who follow the beat of a different drummer you rock. We are made greater by the nerds and geeks and peacemakers who aren’t afraid to be themselves. Your sacrifice of time, talent and treasure is very important and appreciated. Grace and peace to everyone today.
