Something About Future Posts

Expect a lot of blogging about the current state of affairs in my country. I am dedicated to helping make this world a better place free of hate, xenophobia, homophobia, racism and ethnocentrism. Of course there will be posts about the good thing happening personally, globally and locally. It is important to know this is still a place where I chronicle and curate all the things in my life. Thanks for continuing to follow and offer feedback.

Something About Facts

In the 1960’s TV show “Dragnet” Sgt. Joe Friday dealt in facts when solving crimes. That is where “just the facts ma’am” originated. You have to have facts so that justice can prevail. Without facts you risk chaos, injustice and worse. It’s OK to have perspective and opinion but when it comes to things that can impact someones life and the lives of others facts should be the only thing that matters. There is very little room for alternative facts when it comes to really important stuff. Your mother would probably punish you for using alternative facts so as an adult those things don’t carry much weight.

Something About Comments

Comments can inspire, enlighten, inform. They can also demoralize, hurt and wound. Sometimes a comment can reveal more about your readers than the post reveals about you. We have all made comments that in our head sound innocent but when it’s on a screen it looks like something else. We can use our comments to lift someone up or to tear them down when they don’t need to

The old saying if you can’t say something nice don’t say anything at all applies but is often not followed. What you say has weight and consequences. Everyone has said dumb things they regret and wish they could take back but it is also hard to put toothpaste back in a tube. Be sure to leave comments but choose words wisely. It’s always something about those comments.

Something About Division

I was never really good at math but it doesn’t take a mathematician to see how divided the world is. We already know the USA is pretty divided at the moment and I am not confident the current president can heal wounds. To me what its all about is people seeking the same rights and privileges that others have had for hundreds of years.

We can see that one group is so afraid they won’t have control anymore while another group seeks the right for self-determination. Freedom is a very loaded word in that it means that one side wants the right to control everything, everywhere. It also means they get to call the shots too. But then another side is told they can’t have basic human rights such as health care, marriage, reproductive freedom, equal pay, and to just be treated fairly without prejudice and so much more.

Leveling the playing field benefits everyone. No one loses. So why do some want to make it hard for others. It doesn’t make sense to me.

I am an American but I am a citizen of the planet. One is no more important than the other. However some don’t see it like that. I don’t buy into America first at all costs because as long as someone suffers elsewhere then a higher power tells me to love thy neighbor as thyself.

We don’t have to be divided if we would be more generous, welcoming, loving and caring. Selfishness is a heart problem and no country will be great as long as it’s still a thing.

Something About Live And Love

No one should impose their gender biases against someone who is living their lives on their own terms. Too many people are discriminated against based upon their sexuality and gender by people who project their insecurities onto others.

As a white, heterosexual man I have no right to tell anyone who they should or shouldn’t love. Too many people who look like me have nothing better to do than to run the lives of others and to tell them that they are wrong for wanting to just live and love. To my fellow old white guys…stay out of the lives of people who you have no business being in the first place.

Love is love is love is love says Lin-Manuel Miranda and that should be enough for anyone. We are headed into times when people who have fought to be able to love who they choose are going to have it tough. They don’t need anymore grief or strife.

Love thy neighbor as thyself and perhaps we should seek to understand our neighbors for who they are and not who we want them to be. Maybe that would solve a few things.

Something About Tinkering

When do you stop tinkering with something and leave it be? Everyone has this thing they like to mess with and to tweak and to get it just so then they find out it’s not as good as they would like it to be then they go and blow the whole thing up and start anew. Maybe its a matter of finding something they enjoy doing and they are never truly satisfied with it so they have to continue to refine it and to keep working on it. Some people are obsessed with experimentation so they keep on trying to make something work just so. Tinkering with something can keep you out of one form of trouble but could get you in trouble in another way.
