Something About Live And Love

No one should impose their gender biases against someone who is living their lives on their own terms. Too many people are discriminated against based upon their sexuality and gender by people who project their insecurities onto others.

As a white, heterosexual man I have no right to tell anyone who they should or shouldn’t love. Too many people who look like me have nothing better to do than to run the lives of others and to tell them that they are wrong for wanting to just live and love. To my fellow old white guys…stay out of the lives of people who you have no business being in the first place.

Love is love is love is love says Lin-Manuel Miranda and that should be enough for anyone. We are headed into times when people who have fought to be able to love who they choose are going to have it tough. They don’t need anymore grief or strife.

Love thy neighbor as thyself and perhaps we should seek to understand our neighbors for who they are and not who we want them to be. Maybe that would solve a few things.

Something About Tinkering

When do you stop tinkering with something and leave it be? Everyone has this thing they like to mess with and to tweak and to get it just so then they find out it’s not as good as they would like it to be then they go and blow the whole thing up and start anew. Maybe its a matter of finding something they enjoy doing and they are never truly satisfied with it so they have to continue to refine it and to keep working on it. Some people are obsessed with experimentation so they keep on trying to make something work just so. Tinkering with something can keep you out of one form of trouble but could get you in trouble in another way.

Something About Real vs. Fake

It’s amazing we have to figure out what’s real and what’s fake these days. Sometimes the lines are blurred between the two. Whether it be news or what you put in your coffee to make it sweeter, less bitter you have a choice on what to consume. As the classic rock group Queen once sang “is this real life or is it just fantasy” that is the magic question everyone asks. Some people like fake things like diamonds and handbags because you don’t have to pay the real deal price. Information is one of those things that is life and death because depending on what you believe you might do more harm than good. Buyer and believer beware in the real vs. fake thing we all must cope with daily.

Something About Matters Of Faith

Faith is a highly personal thing. No two people have the same take on religious issues. That is the case with me. I find myself being wary of people who use a ton of scripture in every part of their written and verbal communications. Don’t get me wrong, I am a believer in God and I am a follower of Jesus but I would rather my actions speak for me than what is written in The Bible.

I don’t follow the Good Book, I tend to follow the one who inspired it. Scripture is intended to point to God (no matter your faith) but I don’t think it should be used to do harm to others and that happens a lot. I believe in a progressive revelation of who God is and that faith and community in the 21st century is different from that of the era that we read about in the Holy Books of faith that many use.

I think God is doing things now and being more inclusive than many want to admit. Perhaps we should looking at faith and love through the experiences of people in the here and now. Don’t get me wrong, I still am a fan of the Gospels, Psalms and some of what the Apostle Paul wrote. Yeah some folks would have issue with me picking and choosing what I adhere to in the Bible but you know what, God still loves me and all those who are on the fringes who some would keep out of Heaven through highly rigid, highly legalistic and highly fundamentalist interpretations of whatever scripture their faith system holds to. From my perspective there is no fun in fundamentalism. It just doesn’t work for the vast majority of people who see God as loving, caring and comforting.

We all have free will and through that we are going to find our own path through life and the freedom to say yes or no to a divine being. Good for those who make their own choices. Many good people come from a place where they aren’t believers but should be given the same respect as those who have signed on to Team God.

Yeah, everyone is working out their deal with God through a lot of questioning, trembling and perhaps a little fear. I am of the persuasion that there will be a lot of people in the afterlife we will be surprised to see…so I guess we need to treat those folks better while we are still living. There are too many people who might have said yes to God without going through some of the rituals…you just never know.

(I am using God from my Episcopalian/Anglican/Christian perspective… God can be interpreted as something different to those from other cultures and places in the world.)

Something About That Infant A Long Time Ago

The notion of a infant child coming to change the world is a crazy idea and the fact that child grew up to be a hippie and a community organizer is even more crazy. Our world doesn’t need bravado and arrogance, it needs humility, kindness, inclusion and peace. Jesus came into the world to show us how to live, love and laugh and party and be with those who society cast aside. Instead of greatness we need mercy and grace.

Something About Being Good

I think being good means giving grace to those who you don’t always like. It’s hard sometimes but it makes you an even better person for doing so. You might be the one person that can impact their lives for the better and everyone wins then. Now this doesn’t mean you let people walk over you, it just means offering some mercy that was once afforded you at one time in your life. Change sometimes comes from kindness shown.
