State Of My Tech

I have a hand-me-over laptop from Mrs. Soup Diva that I have installed Ubuntu, the open-source Linux operating system Ubuntu 22.04, and Windows 10. I am running them via a dual-boot setup. Both operating systems will still be supported with some updates for the next couple of years so I feel comfortable in saying that I will shoot for a new laptop then and most likely it will be a good refurbished unit that costs under $300. Recently I installed more memory and a solid-state NVME drive so it’s running great right now. I don’t think I am going to have to make any further changes as long as I take care of what I have. I also have a desktop with the same configuration.

I believe it’s good to save your pennies where you can on technology and other things. Soon I am going to adorn the laptop with some stickers to give it a hipster personalization vibe (I’ll share that in a later post). I hope you all have setups that make you happy and productive.

Something Funny In A Roundabout Way

Close to where I live are two roundabouts. There are others in other places in my city. They are designed to help traffic flow safely but they are confusing. Some drivers really don’t like roundabouts as this graphic would indicate. It’s all funny until someone gets hurt.

Doing Some Laptop Upgrades

I did some upgrading to my laptop today. I added an 8 gig memory stick and a 250 gig solid state drive (MNVE 2.0). This straightforward operation took a lot of unscrewing and prying and some seating of the memory and drive. Then I had to put everything back together again. After everything was reassembled it worked and I was happy. This should extend my laptop’s life and speed things up. It was a fun thing to do.

Thanks to the Mrs. for her help in providing me the right tool for the job and taking this picture.
