A Ramble About Blogging: Content and Safety

By nature your blog should be something you post content to in a timely fashion. Its a chronicle of your life and your world and there are lots of things to post about daily. Some post multiple times a day, like me; while others are more methodical and will post only on a schedule….both ways are good, just different in their approach. Just think about how many things happen in your life daily that you can blog on. Some of it might be mundane but perhaps that is how you can connect with others.

When I see a blog that hasn’t been published to in over a year then it makes me wonder if it is being used as a real blog or for nefarious actions. You can never be too careful about what some blogs are there for. I say if there is content on a consistent basis its cool if it is something without having been published to in several months then its abandoned. Some use their blogs are about bots, data mining and spam which we don’t like.

I wish blocking were an option with WordPress because there are some fellow bloggers that look shady. Maybe I am being a little paranoid or perhaps just exercising an over abundance in caution. Either way I want blogging to be a great tool for self expression while being a safe place to share what is happening in your corner of the world.

I Am A WordPress Convert

wordpress-logo.jpgIt’s safe to say I am a WordPress convert. There I said it. Now I feel better. With all due respect to Tumblr, I now feel like I am blogging seriously now. There are amazing tools here for expression, communication and connections.

This is now my official blog of note. When you want to know what is going on with me, http://tonyburgess1969.net is where you go. It is good to be here.

To My Younger Fellow Blogger Followers

To my younger followers….folks in their 20’s and below, I thank you for following. I hope we are learning about the world we live in from each other. It’s awesome to have the opportunity to blog in a diverse community. I consider you peers, friends, equals. The fact that you follow a dude in his mid-40’s (45 to be excact) is remarkable. Creating a safe place to exchange ideas is important you know. Keep on blogging.

My Appreciation Of Women Who Blog

I am a 45 year old man which you would think I would be inspired by sports, cars and that sort of thing. Those things I do find interesting but when it comes to blogging I gravitate to websites featuring beauty, fashion, cooking and “girly things”. Yes I am not their target audience, but I think inspiration can come from surprising places. For me I enjoy the company of great women in my life, I find I relate better to women. Online this extends to my appreciation of women who blog.

This is not to say that men can’t get just as geeky but I just like the way women communicate online. I was raised by some great women so I am comfortable in learning more about the things women like. Visually the color and content of women who blog is very interesting. In my mind it transcends the traditional gender interests into something unique and personal. Yes my dude card was handed in years ago. I am not ashamed of that.

Perhaps its like that movie with Mel Gibson “What Women Want”. Gibson’s character had to understand women in order to speak to them in advertising. All men should seek to understand the things women like and what they think in order to have a better relationships and friendships with our wives, mothers, sisters, aunts, friends. There are differences and knowing what they are can build bridges of understanding and reduce conflict.

Here on WordPress its cool to see entire blogs focused on things that excite the author and makes them want to share it with everyone. I have always thought that fangirls are a great force for good in the world so I want to emulate that a little in what I do. So I look forward to exploring some great blogs written by some passionate people who just happen to be women. Thank you for putting up with a curious dude.

Making Order of Ones Contacts

I have come to the realization that I follow a lot of people on various platforms of social media and blogging. When visiting those sites, I ask myself where do I know them from…Tumblr, WordPress, Twitter, Facebook, etc. Those situations remind me I can’t keep up with everyone. Maybe its the extrovert in me wanting to make as many contacts as possible, that is what makes me good at my job.

My brother-in-law has thousands of contacts on Facebook alone, he knows a lot of people having worked as a educator for a long time. Some people are just more social than others. Every person you meet online is a person, more than just a profile.

For me its contacts I have made through blogging networks and being a part of groups of various sorts. Someone has probably developed an app to help keep your contacts organized and to tell you where you know them from. As in anything in life you will develop a core group of people who will be interested in having a meaningful friendship with you, people who will like what you post and be concerned about you in general. Having a online life can be challenging, but its important for real world interactions with folks from your online life. Putting flesh to those who you know digitally is important.

Productive

It’s interesting that when you are productive you have more energy to be even more productive or so it seems. There are a lot of factors that go into having a productive day such as rest, organization and hard work.

When its a slow day things drag along and it drives one crazy. There is something to building on ones success and it makes it easier to get things done. However there are days where you have to just keep on going no matter what. I do enjoy the easy days but the challenging days build character and help you endure long-term.
