Happy Boxing Day – December 26th

Boxing Day, the traditionally British holiday recognized the day after Christmas, offers an extension of the festivities. People in countries like Canada, the U.K. and South Africa spend an extra day with friends, shopping or watching sports.

It’s origins come from a time during Queen Victoria’s reign when the rich used to box up gifts to give to the poor. Boxing Day was traditionally a day off for servants – a day when they received a special Christmas box from their masters. The servants would also go home on Boxing Day to give Christmas boxes to their families.

To all celebrating I hope it has been a good day of being with those you love and care about.

Dear Canada, I Love You

I am an American who is very very pro-Canadian. They are going through some things right now including some national political turmoil and being bullied by Donald Trump. I will always stand with Canada and Canadians.

Observing Remembrance, Sacrifice, and Service

Today, we remember the lives lost and those who have served. Veterans Day in the United States honors those who have served their country in the military. In the Commonwealth of Nations of Britain, including Canada, Remembrance Day honors those whose lives have been lost in defending their nation. In both observances, it’s the recognition of the sacrifice of oneself for freedom and for the ones they love.

If I Could Live Anywhere, Canada It Would Be!

Daily writing prompt
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

This question is an easy one. Canada. I love Ontario and have visited Toronto, Brampton, and Niagara Falls. I would also entertain New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, or Prince Edward Island. Calgary looks like an interesting place. I hear Montreal is beautiful too but I am not bilingual. Saskatchewan would be interesting too especially Regina.

Happy Thanksgiving Canada! #Canada

To my friends in Canada, I wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving. May your families and friends enjoy this time being together, feasting, and remembering the good things about being True North. May you also be mindful of those in the First Nations communities who are still seeking truth and reconciliation for a troubled past. I love Canada very much.
