Sunday Reflection: Doing Good For Others

Some people need the care and comfort of others in times of need or distress. Whether it be sickness, incarceration, homelessness, and situations where people need assistance, we are all charged with acting. I believe that people have a connection that requires us to act on behalf of our higher power to give hope and grace.

In the season we are in, charity is needed more than ever but with COVID-19 added to the mix people need help even more. So much of what we are seeing is people losing their jobs, a change in the routines in life, and loss of life.

We must be about the work of making our world at this time the best it can be. It is not easy but when everyone comes together it can be something special.

My friends in this holiday season do not forget about others who need a hand. We have a responsibility to care for the least of these because when we do that we can make this mean world a better place.

A Ramble About The Afterlife

We worry about the goodness to come in the afterlife that we fail to make things good in the life we live day-to-day. In my mind it’s really selfish to want the glory of heaven/paradise when there is much to be done to live the best life you can in the here and now. Death is a part of life, it’s the conclusion of ones earthly existence but ones story does continue to be written I think when we continue to be a part of that stream of consciousness and existence in the heavenly places. Our higher power, our creator gave us the gifts of people, places, things to sustain us while here on this planet created for life. We owe it to the ones we love to be there for them and to vigorously embrace them in a profound way. Until we are called to the company of saints then we still have much living to do. It would be a shame to leave this place worse than we found it in our birth.

A Ramble About Hope

I think believers of all faiths should be the vanguards of hope in the world. Sometimes we let the bad stuff of the world get to us and we reflect that in our attitudes about things. We are urging on the end of days when we should be urging people to find their way into a relationship with a higher power that will change them so they can change the world for the better. I certainly think believers need to smile more.

Why I Use The Term “Higher Power”

In many of my posts I choose to use the term “Higher Power”. This is not to deny my own faith but to acknowledge the faith of others.

Faith and spirituality are deeply personal things and as a blogger and social media commentator I think it’s a more inclusive language. Some of my fellow Christians would blast me for using such a term and wondering why not use the word “God” (which I do) and my previous posts show that. I just think there are several world religions with their own deity and their own traditions and customs. I believe in sharing the love of Jesus Christ in different ways but I know that there is a Buddha too among other gods and goddesses from other faith systems. I am interested in building bridges of understanding and encouraging all people to find a system of belief that offers them connection, community and comfort.

Yes I know there are some folks out there who don’t believe in anything or have their doubts and to my atheist and agnostic friends I hope you have people in your life to share the journey with. To me that is important for anyone, no matter what they believe or choose to not believe.

I am commanded by my faith to love my neighbor as myself so perhaps starting with that is a great way to have dialogue and fellowship with people who are different from me.

In future posts I hope to expand on this. But for now may you all have grace, peace and much love.
