Fishing is a popular activity around the world. Whether it be a rod and reel or a net or your bare hands people like to catch fish of all types. Some fish head for the dinner plate while others are just released. There is science and techniques required to be good at it.
It’s also a metaphor for going after customers and clients for one’s business. You have to throw out a wide net to get what you want. The thing about fishing is that you have to know what you are looking for and the water you are searching.
My grandfather took me fishing as a kid. I have done it with friends as an adult. This is a relaxing activity. Sometimes it’s not about the fish, it’s about being together.
I think being good means giving grace to those who you don’t always like. It’s hard sometimes but it makes you an even better person for doing so. You might be the one person that can impact their lives for the better and everyone wins then. Now this doesn’t mean you let people walk over you, it just means offering some mercy that was once afforded you at one time in your life. Change sometimes comes from kindness shown.
In a world that is ever changing we don’t have time for fake anything. I wrote a post on clickbait awhile back and as we have discovered lately mostly its fake news or sensational headlines that are supposed to be passed off as real. We are living in times when people play politics with news and information to advance their agenda. Facebook and Google are working to curtail the cancer that is misinformation which is a good thing. People need to have as much information as possible to make smart decisions. People will pass along things without verifying the source and that makes the problem even worse. Bad info damages every country and it has a serious impact on the democratic process. Good information is important and we need this now more than ever.
Getting out of your comfort zone requires stepping out into unchartered territory, meeting people who are different from you and perhaps picking up on the language they speak. I also think it means meeting people half way and being willing to listen and understand. Yeah it can be scary but so rewarding in the end. Growth comes from being challenged.
