Hi there, my name is Tony Burgess (my friends call me T-Bird) from Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA. I am a believer, bleeding heart, idealist, and blogger. I'm married to Laura the Soup Diva and a dog dad to Frankie, Cody, and Mikey. Daily I work for a blood bank recruiting donors. My blog is where I chronicle and curate the sacred, serious, and silly things in my life. I am a member of The Episcopal Church. Thank you for connecting with me. Grace, peace, and love!

Happy Father’s Day!

I would not be the person I am without the influence of my father and grandfathers. They showed me how to be a man who loves, cares and feels. They taught me how to respect others. My father and grandfathers worked hard to provide for their families and its that example that I hope I emulate myself. I love you Gary, Beecher and Leon for showing me the way.

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads of all types out there.

(Please DO NOT reblog, thank you)

Six Word Story

Inclusion Is Holy, God is love.

Change Of Pace..Get Happy

forget-your-troubles-come-on-get-happy-2Next week I resolve to create and post a lot of positive things. After the past week of sadness due to loss of lives perhaps a change of pace is appropriate. I am going to share funny things, good news, videos and encouraging words. I fear my blog has been a bit of a downer the past week. For many, including myself a lightening of the mood would do us good. Join me good people in doing  likewise. Keep on blogging everyone!

Happy Weekend – Riverbend and Father’s Day!

I hope your weekend is going well and that you are staying cool wherever you might be. Tonight is the final night of Chattanooga’s Riverbend Festival. Classic rock group 38 Special and funk rock showmen Here Comes The Mummies headline on the Coca-Cola Stage. There will be a massive fireworks spectacular too. It’s going to be a great evening on the Tennessee River for the people of my community.

Tomorrow is also Father’s Day in the USA…I am grateful for my dad. Fatherhood is important even if its a father figure in your life.

Whatever you are doing, have fun today and tomorrow!

Rambling About Opinions And Friendships

Everyone has opinions on things they feel passionately about. It’s also a popular thing to post that opinion on your social feed. Some folks will support and agree with you while others won’t. Certainly there are situations when debate and disagreement has been so strong that it causes friendships to be strained and some to end.

I think everyone should have the freedom to express themselves without being punished for it when it goes contrary to the opinion of others. There are some good people I have had to unfriend/un-follow on Facebook because they consistently and constantly post things that are born from ignorance and intolerance. Yes you might say I am being intolerant too but when someone is so radical and outspoken you just need to free yourself of it.

There are times when losing friendships happens because of your views and what you stand for. Yes it’s sad when you go through that but perhaps it might be for the best. I have to think there will be other people who will step in the gap and become your friend because they value what you have to say and what you believe. A solid friendship will remain despite the differences however if you find that a friend cannot see your point of view then perhaps is that friendship worth preserving ?

Tolerance is a hard thing, understanding is even harder, love is the hardest thing you have to do. Remember you have to be yourself and your opinions matter too.
