Hi there, my name is Tony Burgess (my friends call me T-Bird) from Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA. I am a believer, bleeding heart, idealist, and blogger. I'm married to Laura the Soup Diva and a dog dad to Frankie, Cody, and Mikey. Daily I work for a blood bank recruiting donors. My blog is where I chronicle and curate the sacred, serious, and silly things in my life. I am a member of The Episcopal Church. Thank you for connecting with me. Grace, peace, and love!

Rambling About Personal Friendships and Relationships

I read about a lot of people who cut people out of their lives. Ending relationships and friendships is not an easy decision to make. For a long time I did that with one person I had a spiritual and historical connection with. Some folks change so radically and its not always in ones best interest to keep them around in your lives.

Dysfunctional relationships are painful and often times you have to end them. I really try to offer grace and patience in all the relationships I have with people but I have my limits. Relating to people means having some humility and finding out more about who they are. We live in a time of where personal issues or “drama” as we like to call it can be so magnified on social media and through technology that we make snap judgements about things. I am guilty of that as well as everyone else.

My hope is to keep as many friends as I can, do my best to be there for them and not worry about not being liked by everyone I know. The key thing is to be myself and to be the best person I can be. Sometimes quality friendships are more important than how many friends you have.

What I Learned This Week As Team Leader

Being a team leader in any line of work is a big responsibility. You are placed in trust of the lives and livelihoods of everyone you are placed in charge of. Management is not easy because you have to coach, correct and discipline when necessary. It is also a fun job because you get to do different things and to impart your vision to your team. I hope to grow and develop as a person as I do this job.

Of course you have production goals to achieve which requires a lot of work and being sure that work is done by every team member. You as a middle manager which I am means you get pressure from the top to perform and you get it from below from your team when they have problems, and you hope that you can manage them as they happen.

In my line of work there statistics, metrics, data and spreadsheets that one can use to measure performance and productivity. However a co-worker said that stats don’t make the person, the worker is more valuable than that. Now that I am headed into my second week in management I see things coming together and things smoothing themselves as I go along. Indeed I am grateful for this opportunity.

My First Week In Management Is Done

Well I finished my first week as Team Leader of the telerecruiting department at Blood Assurance and survived. My team did good work and helped make this week a positive experience. Next week is just a couple of days away but I am glad it’s the weekend.

Our first visit to our new, nearby Food City. I liked many of the prices and new choices on the shelves. Not a huge renovation though. Much of the old Bi Lo stuff is still there. #foodcity #chattanooga
