Black or White…Not Many Shades of Gray

There are times when I am a black or white sort of guy, and there aren’t many shades of gray. It’s one thing, or another. Sometimes I am about what’s on the extremes, instead of the middle. That bothers me because I sometimes come across as a jerk who isn’t very open minded. We live in a world where there is lots of moderation and a middle way sort of thing. My Episcopal faith teaches the Via Media which about the middle way or perhaps a 3rd option.

I need to perhaps embrace that more. Lots of people live in the gray, because it is what helps them get through life without being lonely because they are more concerned with people more than positions or politics or anything like that. Sometimes I need to be called out for not thinking about others and their viewpoints. My friends I want to be the person who thinks about the road others have taken to get where they are and perhaps learn something myself about their struggles.

Now is the time to embrace the notion that we are all different, unique and talented in our own ways and there are people who are many shades of gray.

Small Business Saturday

Today was Small Business Saturday, a day set aside to promote small businesses in the midst of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. American Express is championing this effort to help independent retailers have a big impact on the economy during the holiday shopping season. We did our part today to help the economy and to put some money into the til of some of our favorite businesses on the North Shore of Chattanooga.

The EPB Window Displays for 2015 in #Chattanooga

Each year our electric and fiber optic utility company sets up a window display for the holidays. They are different each year. This year’s ensemble features children having fun in various vignettes. Also there is a special display honoring the service of those in our community who have served in the military. There is a winter wonderland happening here.
