“Disrespect invites disrespect. Violence incites violence. When the powerful use their position to bully others we all lose.”
Meryl Streep from the 2017 Golden Globes
Today was Epiphany Sunday (Epiphany was on Friday but recognized today in many Christian traditions, including Anglican/Episcopal) which also Theophany or Three Kings’ Day, is a Christian feast day that celebrates the revelation of God in his Son as the incarnation of Jesus Christ.
I appreciate being in a faith community that honors ancient traditions (such as Epiphany, Advent, Lent, Pentecost and the like) and teachings that predate Biblical texts. The story of Christianity is more than what you read from Genesis to Revelation (from a follower of Jesus’ perspective). Ones faith is told not only from a Book but from oral traditions and customs that have been passed down for generations and through time and space. It is those things that brings ancient believers to the believers of the present. Through all of it God is there and there is great comfort in that.
What would you say to a person you hadn’t seen in a very long time? For me that could be as long ago as 40 years (I’m 47) or longer. You would be different people. It would be a situation where life has come and gone. Facebook has been good at reuniting people but for many its a class reunion or a homecoming at school or a place of worship. Seeing someone you haven’t seen in a very long time is sweet and special. How would you react?
