Digital Hoarding and Archives

If you are like me I have created thousands of documents, pictures, videos and the like over the years. So many of the files I have stored are 10 years or more old. Something in me can’t get rid of these items, call it being sentimental. There are those who would call it hording but this isn’t about them now. It’s good to hold on to things like tax records, receipts, pictures, personal emails and business items. After awhile purging these items can be helpful for organizational purposes. Old grocery lists, dated notes, old bills and the like can be deleted.

It would take me days to go through all my stuff so I have chosen to have everything created from a certain point be archives and put in folders so I can at least search for them.

Today I deleted some old WordPress blogs I don’t use anymore. I exported them to an archival blog for future use and then deleted what I had just exported. There are some blogger blogs I need to do this to as well. Sometimes its good to reduce your digital footprint so that you are more secure and better organized.

Services like Google Drive, Dropbox and the like can help you store your information in the cloud as you also store them on an external hard drive or flash drive (called a belt and suspenders way of storage).

No matter how you store your documents be sure you use good passwords and up-to-date browsers and apps to manage your files. You can never be too safe.

WoofPress, The WordPress for Dogs

This dog does not have a blog.

If a there was a dog version of WordPress would it be “WoofPress”….What would your dog say if it had a blog. Just think of all the things they see daily that they don’t say a word about. Dogs are loyal and fortunately they can’t air your dirty laundry on a blog. Now cats would be totally tell-all. I think the dog version of Twitter is Woofer.

Discover Challenge: The Poetry of List-Making

Lists can help you get things done. Putting things into order can create a rhythm of its own, much like a poem or a song. You can prioritize what you want to do by importance and what you value most. I suppose a list can be a poem as much as anything. List making is a good way to be sure you remain on the task of accomplishing your prime goal. You can see what are the pros and cons of something too. Everyone has a wish list of the things that they desire. Lists are good as long as you act upon them.

Farewell Tumblr Blogs 2011-2015. #tumblr #wordpress

Today I deleted two Tumblr blogs where I chronicled and curated the things in my life that are important to me. I was there from 2011 to 2015 and I created thousands of posts there. I am a sentimental person so this was a bittersweet thing for me. Sure I could have kept them around but it felt like the right thing to do. The smaller your digital footprint the better according to experts. Importing them to WordPress made the process an easier one. The more I use WordPress.com the more I like it. Friends I am glad to be among you and thank you for accepting me in this incredibly creative community.

You can check out those posts @ The Tumblr Years of Tony Burgess where you can learn more about my blogging past.
