Everyone is entitled to their opinions. But when those opinions come from a place of harm or hate, then it goes into something more dangerous.
I see racism, homophobia, transphobia, Islamophobia and antisemitism as being very harmful. Those systems of hate are dangerous to people who are our friends and neighbors. I do not abide any of that. We cannot let the opinions of people who come from a dark place to create chaos. If you are keeping up, people who are speaking out are finding themselves in danger.
It’s time to show love to one another and to have the opinions that welcome, include and promote understanding. It’s the only way we will survive. Love your neighbor and yourself while you are at it.
Teaching about the evils of racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia and other social ills is very important in these days we live in. For our society to advance you have to peel back the curtain that some would rather keep closed because that means they are complicit in making life hard for others. Without these lessons those who seek to take the country back to a dark place will win. America should be a place for life, liberty and happiness for all. Future generations depend on that promise. Teach our children well because their lives literally depend on it.
I don’t know much about “Empire” star Jussie Smollett but I know he’s an actor, human and happens to be gay. He was attacked in Chicago by men who sought to harm him in a very violent way. Those who attacked him are a part of a great problem of prejudice, hate and homophobia. Smollett has worked to make life better for all in his community. The America of the 21st century should be about love, compassion, inclusion and peace. Those who sought to harm him are a part of a serious problem that must be fixed.

We live in a time when people are looking for scapegoats for everything. It’s a serious problem when things are changing rapidly and people are losing control over their personal situations. When people are stressed because they have lost their jobs and their standing in life they need to find a reason for it. The more things change, the more they stay the same and we can look to our past during times in our history when some people were persecuted for being different and wanting the same things other people have. It’s a troubling thing to scapegoat because sometimes the problem is closer to home than you think.
Scapegoating has been used to justify racism, homophobia, discrimination and more. It still is a problem with some folks who cannot accept the change we have in the world.
