#Skyscraper – A Great Family Thriller

img_20180721_125034

I saw Dwayne Johnson’s new movie “Skyscraper” today and was throughly entertained. He is the great action hero for the days we live in. This movie shows off his range of being tender, passionate, fierce and strong. He is out to rescue his family from a 200 story high rise in Hong Kong (that’s all I will reveal about the movie so no more spoilers).

This is a nod to movies of its genre such as “Die Hard” and “The Towering Inferno” among others. The movie has strong females too including Neve Campbell who plays his wife, she is formidable as well. Set in one of the great places in asia you get sucked into a whole new world and culture which makes it all the more interesting. I recommend you see this on the big screen its worth your money and a little over an hour and a half.

Little Women, Strong As Hell

91+1FZn0QGL._SY445_I have seen lately two adaptations of Louisa May Alcott’s “Little Women” and have enjoyed the story very much. Granted I am not much of a reader so I am learning more from the TV and Movie presentations I have seen. What strikes me is this story is about strong women taking care of business and family during the Civil War era. It also is a reminder of how good Men have had it in terms of social advantage and status.

Women in my mind are strong and fierce. They know how to survive. The little women of this story are truly giants who want to make contributions to family and the world. They survive by relying upon one another and do whatever they can to make their family thrive under the circumstances of the time.

Women are strong as hell and these women in this story prove it. Sure they have their moments of vulnerability and tragedy but it can only make them stronger. One thing these women can do is love strongly, which is inspirational. I appreciate this story reminding the world that if given an opportunity women rarely miss their shot in life.

Bad Moms, A Good And Funny Movie

Bad Moms Wine

I am not a parent and this movie was hilarious, laugh out loud funny and so much more. There is a commentary on how busy and over extended our parents and in this case moms are and by extension their kids. In the search for perfection and status humanity has lost its focus on raising decent and kind kids who will make the world a better place. Mila Kunis leads this loaded cast of talented women (and a few men) into examining the human condition from a different perspective.

The Theory Of Everything

It’s important that we know that there is a universe bigger than ourselves. There is a theory of everything that explains some of those mysteries. Whether it be religion or science making the world a better place is what we should all be hoping and dreaming about.

This movie is about Jane and Stephen Hawking and how they came together and his early work as a theoretical physicist. It also chronicles the early days of his diagnosis of ALS or Lou Gherig’s Disease. Its a great romance against the odds. Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones shine in this movie.

A Wrinkle In Time – A Great Movie For Our Times

a-wrinkle-in-time-still

I am not much of a reader which is shocking to some but today I saw the movie “A Wrinkle In Time” based upon the book by Madeline L’engle. This story of expanding the universe, your mind and your heart resonated with me. We have a daughter and a son trying to bring their back home who has found his way across the universe based upon a discovery that connects its far ends. He ends up in the grips of an evil force that has kept him from the family for four years.

Three celestial beings, Mrs. Which, Mrs. Who and Mrs. Whatsit who are played by Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling and Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon. guide newcomers Storm Reid, Levi Miller and Deric McCabe join veteran actors Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michael Pena, Chris Pine and Zach Galifianakis in this adventure in space, time and most importantly love.

Ava DuVernay did a beautiful job making the story vibrant, colorful and dark when needed. We need to see more stories that empower young people and especially young women to become warriors for good in their own time and the universe. I recommend this to everyone. Movies like this are important and necessary in the dark times we live in.
