My Heart Is Troubled And It’s OK

Let your heart not be troubled is something I hear from the scripture of my faith. However I have to admit right now my heart is troubled. With all that is happening in the world I cannot help it. So much is going on that gives me concern. There are lots of situations that give us great concern.

There are times that its easier to not let my heart and soul be troubled. In these days I am trying to keep the faith but its easier said than done. No matter ones faith there will be days of calm and days of chaos.

Just because my heart is troubled doesn’t mean I have a lack of resolve and confidence in my higher power. It’s very human to feel unsure when things like a pandemic is going on. Everything has turned upside down and no one knows when things will be safe again.

My heart is also troubled about racism when an African American is gunned down in a neighborhood or on the streets, LGBTQ people are discriminated against, transgender people are murdered just for wanting to live their truth, poor people are having to figure out where their next meal comes from, unemployed people are missing paychecks and benefits that keep them going. Death of loved ones who you thought would be with you forever. There are so many more things to be troubled about too that the list would go on and on.

Having a troubled heart is a very human thing. It’s appropriate in times like this to comfort one another as best we can given the era of social distancing. My friends let your heart be troubled but also let your heart have courage too. You can have both which is a very human experience.

Thanks to Deacon John for your homily this morning which inspired this post.

Great Scott Marty!

That’s heavy Doc. A little levity in the chaos that is the year 2020.

Calling And Abundance

During my priests homily this morning he talked about calling primarily and from that a secondary rift on abundance. Every person has some sort of calling and from a religious sense its about opportunities that God has given to humanity. I think a calling is an opportunity to do great things. You have an abundance of people and places and cool things that come into your life because of it.

The crazy part of it all is when you answer the call lots of stuff happens that makes it possible for your to fulfill your new duties in life.

This thing about abundance has been kind of loaded in the sense that it seems to be used by some to grace people with wealth and riches. My mindset comes from a place of fairness and justice where there are so many people who are living without. Maybe abundance can be measured in different ways where its about all the cool things you get to do in life.

So as I contemplate the notions of calling and abundance perhaps I can find out more and see how it can change my view and life. Let’s see how it goes. Here is to all of us seeking to do what we are called to do in abundance.

Above The Clouds

Being above the clouds can help take your mind off all the troubles down below. Clouds can be fluffy and pretty but some have as much trouble in them as what your life is on the ground. Having your head in the cloud is a nice, temporary retreat from the woes of life but you can’t stay there. Sometimes we wish we could store all our problems in the cloud. Whatever has you wishing for the clouds is only temporary. It too shall pass like clouds.

In some ways, climbing in the clouds is comforting. You can no longer see how high off the ground you are.

The Thing About Repetition

I have been blogging so long I sometimes forget that I have written about a subject more than once here. I guess repetition is not a bad thing or is it? New information and inspiration can create a new line of discussion and that is growth. So, in a nutshell repetition is a good thing.

The Thing About: Patience

In this time of uncertainty, patience is a divine virtue. Have patience with yourself, with one another, with the circumstances we are in. Everyone is going through something and we all wish things were back to “normal”. It is my thought that we aren’t going back to “normal” but something else that will require us to have patience and a whole lot of grace for one another.

Who knows what things will look like on the other side. It will require patience and hopefully freedom from anxiety.

My friends, now is the time to be still, take care of self, have a little faith in something that will get you through. Remember to love one another and yourselves in this very difficult time.
