Hi there, my name is Tony Burgess (my friends call me T-Bird) from Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA. I am a believer, bleeding heart, idealist, and blogger. I'm married to Laura the Soup Diva and a dog dad to Frankie, Cody, and Mikey. Daily I work for a blood bank recruiting donors. My blog is where I chronicle and curate the sacred, serious, and silly things in my life. I am a member of The Episcopal Church. Thank you for connecting with me. Grace, peace, and love!

Back To School Time

When I was a kid school started back after Labor Day in the USA because the weather was just a little cooler. These days some kids around the country start back before August. Classes are starting back earlier and earlier these days for various reasons. The challenges our teachers and students face are tougher and they have to be smarter. Our world has changed and the lessons they need to learn are important to their success.

Around the world kids start at different times. For some of my followers their kids are now enjoying Summer break.

Every student, every teacher, every parent has a lot riding on our schools and they need our support. New teachers are coming in as old teachers are retiring and the standards that need to be met are higher. Elementary, middle and high schools along with colleges need to be safe and secure places of learning too. As school starts back lets keep everyone involved in our thoughts and prayers. They need it now, more than ever.

This is a classic commercial from the office supply chain Staples. For parent’s this is a great time of year because the kids are returning to the classroom.

Quote Of The Day

Each time a person stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, they send forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.

Self Care, Just Saying

I have come to a realization that I need to be a part of things and people that feed my soul as I feed them. When you give and give it leaves you dry. This means setting some things aside for a season. I need to be cared for in as much as I care for others. You know that I’m not self centered but I need to focus on me so I can be the best I can be for others. I hope I’m making sense here. Thanks for your understanding.

Social Justice Warrior, Worrier

Sometimes I am a social justice warrior, seeking equality and equity in society. Sometimes I am a social justice worrier because I see bad things happening to good people. Social justice is about leveling the playing field and hoping there isn’t potholes along the way. It’s unfair how the world automatically stacks the deck against those most vulnerable. Concern about the least of these is crucial. No one should pay a price for being their most authentic selves. Respecting the rights of all people is what social justice is all about. We need more people to give a damn about others and quit being selfish. Without social justice there are many in the world who would be persecuted and then perish. Be a worrier then take action to be a warrior.
