A Ramble About Vacation

The thing about vacation is that it goes by way too fast. You look forward to it for weeks then it comes and goes very quickly. The memories of being away help you in times when you need something to get you by. You are changed by your experience and its something that you can hope to repeat again in a new way in the future.

Rambling About Being Too Nice

I am too nice for my own good. Sometimes I am nice to a fault and let people walk over me. I guess its because I wanna get along with everyone. We need more nice people in the world but perhaps with a bit of moxie and vinegar when needed.

Rambling About Being Yourself, When Alone

Sometimes you can breathe and be yourself when you are alone. We all have a game face to put on in public. So many people would love to be authentic when they are among family and friends but often they have to play their part, know their role, to be the person others expect. This might sound cynical but its often true. It takes special people to allow you to be the person you want to be without ridicule. When you are alone you are responsible for caring for yourself and maybe a pet if you have one. I suck at being alone because I have an identity as a husband and that requires being in the company of the one I love. Being yourself when you are alone is something you can do but it can be a challenge too.

Rambling on Symbolism

Symbolism is a very powerful tool in conveying a message. Icons, trees, boxes and other things in our world can be symbolic of something that is meaningful. Metaphors paint a picture in words and those words are themselves symbolic of things in life that help tell a story. Symbols and metaphors relay a larger truth that people need to hear. So many rely upon a literal translation of things where 1 and 2 equals 3 all the time, well it does but perhaps there is another truth that can be told in that. We need to look dimensionally and see things in a new way. In faith there are symbols that tell its story in a unique way. Everyone needs symbolism to help us understand and communicate. Everywhere you look there are symbols of things that help us to know what they are about.

A Ramble About The Treatment of Women

Woman_power_symbolWomen have it tough today…even in the 21st century. It seems as if the advances of the 1990’s has been under attack by those who really want the good old days. I believe women should make health care decisions on their own and with their doctor’s advice.. Stories of women being treated poorly and the issue of rape is so wrong. To see their stories of being mistreated and abused is truly sad.

In church on Sunday the rector of the parish we were visiting said that wisdom is feminine and who am I to argue. Many women in my life are way smarter than me. They inspire me in so many ways. I have been blessed in my life to have many great women as family, mentors and friends and bloggers. From my wife, to my mom to my grandmother they all make me a better person.

As I have said before women need to have the freedom to make their own choices and decisions without the interference of men unless it’s in a marital situation where a joint decision needs to be made. Women should be able to take their own path in life to make their dreams come true.

So my sisters keep reaching to break the glass ceiling, do your thing, be your own people. Be strong, be courageous.

Rambling About Being Social

Humans for the most part are social creatures. Perpetual isolation goes against our nature. Granted some people like to be alone but even then the need for interaction is good for them. We cannot think of ourselves as an island out there in a vast ocean. Every human being is connected in one way or another through something. No matter who you are there are times when you need a warm embrace that reminds you that you are indeed special. We all need that company that helps us get through life when tough times come. People are informed by the conversations they have with others who share their experiences. Learning from others is important to help us not make the same mistakes they have made. Everyone needs somebody, somebody to hold. Being social is being very human indeed.
